When something isn't working

One heading per problem: what you see, why it happens, and what to tap.

My feed is empty

You see "No Following Feed". Nostr has no algorithm, so a new account starts with nothing: you see posts from people you follow.

Fix: follow a few people. Fill Your Feed helps you find them by topic, and five follows builds your web of trust, which fills Discover and Global too. Replay it from Settings → Help → Tutorials. More on Feeds.

Global and Media also stay empty until your web is built. That's on purpose: they show nothing rather than everyone.

I can't post, like or follow

You see "Read-only for now", "No private key stored for this account" or "This account is read-only. Add its key to follow." You signed in with an npub or a name@domain, which lets you look but not sign.

Fix: add the account's key or connect a signer in Settings → Accounts & Keys.

My signer never answers

You see "Your signer didn't answer in time", "Clave didn't answer" or, on Android, "Amber signing was cancelled or timed out". Your signer app has a request waiting that you haven't approved, or it can't reach its relay.

Fix: open the signer app, approve the pending request, then tap Retry in Nostr Vault. If it says "Couldn't reach your signer's relay", check your connection. "This signer is for a different account" means the signer holds another key than the account you picked.

My photo post didn't send

You see "Your post wasn't sent: no outside media server is set up". A photo has to sit on a public media server so other people can see it, even with the mesh.

Fix: add a server in Settings → Relays → Media Servers, then post again. (Android's message says "Settings → Blossom"; the row is called Media Servers.)

If it says your Mac didn't take the photo, check that Nostr Vault is open on your Mac. "Saved on this device" means the post will send itself as soon as the server answers.

A relay isn't answering

In the relay list you see "relay isn't answering". It didn't answer just now. Relays go down.

Fix: leave it a while. If it stays down, remove it. "No Write relay" means none of your relays is set to Write, so your posts have nowhere to go: mark at least one as Write.

Android: my vault went quiet after an update

Installing an update stops the app, and with it your vault relay.

Fix: open the app once after updating. Keep Start Relay Automatically on: newer builds then start the relay again by themselves after an update.

A device on My Devices is never in reach

Under Settings → Mesh → FIPS Mesh → My Devices a device stays "Not in reach" (Android shows when it was last seen). A Mac or a kiosk phone only answers devices that are on its own My Devices list, and a Mac with an empty list doesn't start the mesh at all.

Fix: add the devices both ways. On each device, copy the address under This Device and add it on the other one; on your phones, add the Mac as Vault on Mac. Check that Mesh is on, on both. See My Devices.

Check sync stops early

On iPhone, Check sync with Vault on Mac ends on "Stopped · N still missing", "Copy didn't finish" with a reason, or "Copy was interrupted". The button is greyed out while a copy is running or when your vault relay isn't running.

Fix: read the reason line. "Copy was interrupted" means the app closed during the copy; it picks up again the next time the relay starts. Anything that couldn't be copied is tried again once a day, and tapping the button starts a new run.

Someone's photos don't load over the mesh

Your app only asks the mesh for photos from people you follow, and only if they list their own vault as a media server. Files over 32 MB always come from the normal web address. This is about whose photos your app loads. It doesn't change who can see yours.

Fix: follow them, and check they have the mesh turned on. Otherwise the photo loads from its web address as usual.

Kiosk mode paused

On iPhone you get "Kiosk mode paused". Leaving the app pauses kiosk mode.

Fix: tap the notification or open the app again; kiosk mode turns back on by itself. If it won't start, add your other phone or your Mac under My Devices first. If it says you hit the limit for one session, it starts again next session. See Kiosk mode.
