Opening a profile link
- Scanned or pasted in Nostr Vault. The code from the setup scanner, or a link pasted into
Search, opens the profile straight away. Search also takes a bare npub, an nprofile or a
nostr:link. - Opened in a browser (a tapped link, or a code scanned with the phone camera). The page shows the profile's name, picture and bio, with Open in Nostr Vault to jump into the app, Get Nostr Vault if they don't have it, and Open in another Nostr app.
- New to Nostr Vault? If they open the link and then install and set up the app, the person who shared it is already filled in on the Who told you about Nostr Vault? step. See below.
During setup
Who told you about Nostr Vault?
A new account starts with an empty feed. One setup step fixes that with the person who brought you here.
- Tap Scan their profile code, or paste their profile link or npub and continue. Tap Skip, nobody told me to leave the step out.
- Their profile card shows, so you can check it's them. Tap Follow with their name, or Not them? Try another.
- Next come up to 10 people they follow, the ones most followed by their other follows first, all ticked. Untick anyone you'd rather not follow.
- Tap the button that says how many you'll follow. You follow them and everyone still ticked, as one follow list, once setup finishes.
The step comes after your profile when you create an account, and after the relay check when you bring an account you can post with. Read-only accounts skip it. Details for each device: iPhone, Android, Mac.
On each device
- iPhone, iPad and Android have everything on this page. A profile link opened before setup fills in the Who told you step.
- Mac has Share profile, and a link pasted into Search opens the profile. Links don't open the Mac app from a browser, so paste the link into the Who told you step yourself.
